Back in June, M’s father visited us. One of the major parts of his visit besides just being here, was giving us a HUGE hand in many home improvement areas. The biggest, was helping us replace three doors, and two of those being double doors. When we moved in, one of the first things we noticed was the shape that our garage side entry door and patio doors were in, and we just flat out didn’t like our front door. Although, the front door was far from perfect and we didn’t like the patio door or side entry door either, so I guess the reasoning is the same across the board.
Note: this thread has a LOT of pictures, so please let everything load!
So, after last week when I posted that we were low on content, a friend emailed me and suggested we post about being transplanted NY’ers, now in Florida. I talked to E about this and it seems a pretty good idea, but it shouldn’t be about “Us” moving, more about each of us. We each have our own changes we went through, so at some point, E will give her feelings, and I will start with mine.
In this post, I’ll just give a quick background on where I am from and how we decided to move, and talk about specifics down the road.
I was born and raised in New York State, to some, you could even say “upstate”, even though its not that far upstate(except NYC residents). I ended up going to college at a SUNY(State University of New York) school a couple hours from home mainly because I was bored in my hometown. This had nothing to do with my friends or family, but more with the overall surroundings weren’t where I saw myself and this was an opportunity to get out.

So E and I are a bit low lately on material to post. We have a lot of projects in progress and a few we are just finishing up, so hopefully next weekend will be better, but forgive us for the downtime, we are new at this!

So, remember a few weeks ago, we gave an update on our garden? Well, here is another small one. It involves our Cucumber plant.
Here is our cucumber, or so we thought.
So, we found it funny how the “cucumbers” looked for the past few weeks and I thought maybe I just misremembered what cucumbers looked like when growing. This weekend we went out to a green market and I saw a basket of Okra, and it looked surprisingly like our cucumbers. It got me curious and we stopped in at the nursery we bought these from, and saw some big Okra plants there, so thats what we have!
Luckily we explained how we bought a plant that had a “cucumber” tag on it, and they gave us a free new cucumber plant, apparently someone thought it’d be funny to do this. Now we have this huge Okra plant and have no idea what to do with it. Any ideas??
Anyway, here is our new cucumber plant, and we purchased an additional tomato plant incase our current one doesn’t make it through its problems.
We recently decided we wanted to clean the carpet in our living room, but being we have plans to eventually replace the carpet, we did not want to pay professionals or put too much into it. We simply wanted to have it look better than it did, especially with having two puppies grow up there and not knowing how well the previous owners kept it clean.
We did some research and there was not much I could find regarding the cleaning rentals, but we decided to try one anyway.
We are not endorsing Home Depot or their carpet rental in this post, it simply is who we decided to go with and we would gladly try other competitors in the future.
So, one night, I headed over to Home Depot and grabbed one of their cleaners, like this picture below.
So you pick up one of these machines, which I found fit in my trunk pretty easily and some of the carpet cleaning liquid. It costs around $25 for a 24 hour period and then the liquid was about $7 for our carpet. If you return it “the same day” or in our case, by 9am when we rented it at 6pm the previous night, it was only $18 for the rental.
All you have to do to start is open the top as seen below, and put the correct mixture of carpet cleaning liquid and hot water in.
You will have to fill this up often, but then you basically run it slowly over the carpet, almost like mowing a lawn and it will place down the hot water and cleaner. We went over the problematic areas many times, to get them as clean as possible.
When you are done, there is a different mode for the cleaner to suck up the water and soap, so you just go over it again. All in all, it took us about 2 hours to finish our living room and it came out a lot better than it had been.
About 24 hours later, the carpet was totally dry, and many areas were dry overnight.
I only have a couple pictures of before and after, but this was our biggest problem area. Its not perfect, but its certainly better than before. Keep in mind, in the picture, some of the discoloration is from the angle, or the carpet still being slightly wet. Hopefully sooner than later, we will have a post about completely new flooring! For now, Enjoy!
Check this out…. Its crazy to see how tiny Peanut was when we first brought her home…and then into the (assumed) fully grown dog she is now..
